end of hiatus

So I'm ending my hiatus for DA. There are still some things that kind of frustrate me but it really is the most reliable site for getting an audience for art. If I start posting again I'll probably start interacting more frequently as well, as opposed to just getting on once every few months, liking a bunch of recent content, then disappearing again. I'll be posting my most recent art pieces in the next few days, but if you want to see everything I've made most recently you are totally welcome to check out my Tumblr or Instagram accounts!

If you haven't seen it already, here is the journal where I say why I'm not posting any longer. It's a shame because I absolutely love DA's gallery system, but I really don't feel comfortable with DA being able to give the rights to online stores for merch without me getting any compensation.

Clearing My Gallery

This is probably just one of many examples of how naive I am, and how foolish I have been.
Like many people on the internet, I don't always read the Terms of Service when signing up for websites, and I didn't do it much when making my DeviantArt account years ago. Due to issues with Tumblr's new guidelines against nsfw content, even artists who post innocent work are at risk of having their posts flagged, thanks to a faulty algorithm. As a result, I decided to properly read the submission agreement on DA rather than just skimming through it like an idiot.

I read through the entire thing and decided I'm never posting my art or writing to DeviantArt ever again. By posting to DA creators are giving them a "worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license" to do the following:
(a) post them on their website and edit them in any way they see fit;
(b) publish your art in any media, use it to showcase their website or even promote certain groups without your knowledge;
(c) modify, adapt, change or otherwise alter the Artist Materials (e.g., change the size) and use the Artist Materials as described in Section 3(b);
(d) edit, change, or otherwise modify your artwork in any way they want, as well as sublicensing it to third parties, such as Hot Topic;
(e) By posting on FA, you forfeit your right to dispute any third party profits or copyright infringements upon your art;
(f) DeviantArt can use your art to advertise anything they want;
(g) ANYTHING you submit to DeviantArt belongs to DeviantArt now. Including your drawings, your photos, videos, your stock materials, your music/audio, your written stories, and your artist name.
I truly feel stupid for not having read this thoroughly before. Or maybe I did, but when I joined I was 14. I wouldn't have fully understood the terms with the way the original document is phrased.
I know I'm a small artist, but I do take my work seriously and feel highly uncomfortable with DeviantArt selling my work without my knowledge and without having to give me anything in return. In the next week I'm planning to delete my entire gallery.

Journal Update

I'm still alive, I promise. This journal will be brief.
Personal
I'm in my senior year of high school, and it's been both stressful and exciting so far. I'm still attending a vocational school for Information Technology, and as a result I don't get to see as many of my friends as I did when I still took classes at my high school, outside of clubs and sports events.
Writing and Art
I haven't found the time to work on fanfiction, since most of my writing as of late has been for original content. I am hoping to change that, but as of now all fan-writing projects are put to the side.
I've been steadily improving my digital art skills over the past year, which you can see if you check out my gallery.

Update on Life

Hey, everyone! A few updates on how things have been going on my end, as well as the status of various writing projects.
Personal Stuff (can ignore)
School has been extremely time-consuming. I'm at a trade school of sorts, in the Information Technology lab. I've learned a lot about how computers work, though I already knew the basics for some languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The cafeteria food is a lot better than at my home school as well.
I went to two different homecomings this year, which was really fun; the only downside was all of the glitter on my dress.
Writing Projects
Pretty Poison and Miss Matchmaker are officially CANCELLED.
Pretty Poison was doomed from the start. For one, it was badly written, and I didn't have a beta reader at the time. I did not plot out anything past the introductory chapters, which resulted in my running out of steam. (Thank you, ADHD). I also regret making my OCs anything but cameos, which also applies to Miss Matchmaker.
Miss Matchmaker was co-written with AwkwardAxolotl. After personal tragedies, she almost completely stopped using the account; it brought back many unwanted memories.
However, that does not mean that the concepts are completely scrapped. We have been working on some projects together, and ideas for rebooting Miss Matchmaker (and possibly Pretty Poison) have been thrown around. Our OCs have been completely removed from the One Piece universe, and we are spending most of our attention on the new world they will be in. We made a blog on Tumblr for it, though we've not really posted much for it besides an introduction to the blog and some drawings for Inktober.
